A little less retyping

Make your everyday words reusable.

Save an example, turn the changing parts into fields, and preview the finished message before you copy or insert.

Create your first template

  1. Click the TypeFlow toolbar icon, then Open library.
  2. Choose New template. Add a name and a shortcut such as ;hello.
  3. Paste an example into Example text. Select a changing part, such as a name, then choose Make field.
  4. Name the field and add it. To repeat the same value elsewhere, select the other occurrence and choose the field from Reuse field.
  5. Save the template. Choose Use template, fill the details, check the preview and copy.

You can also add any of the 30 original starter templates to your library. Three examples are included when you install.

Insert on a page

Click a normal text input or text area first. Then open TypeFlow from the toolbar and choose Open page palette, or use Alt + Shift + Space. Choose a template, fill the fields and click Insert text. Selected text is replaced; other text is preserved. TypeFlow never sends or submits a message.

If another extension or your operating system uses the keyboard combination, choose your own in chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Use typed shortcuts

From the toolbar popup on a normal website, choose Enable on this site and accept Chrome's optional permission. In a supported field, type a saved shortcut such as ;thanks, then press Space. This opens a preview. The shortcut is replaced only when you confirm insertion. Press Escape to close the preview.

Each site is enabled separately. Remove a site in Settings to stop automatic shortcut previews immediately.

Supported editors

Direct insertion supports standard text inputs and text areas in the top-level page. Complex rich-text editors (including Gmail's composer), embedded frames, browser settings, Chrome Web Store pages, PDFs and incognito use are outside this release's supported insertion scope. Use Copy text and paste manually there. Some websites replace their editor or intercept input; TypeFlow refuses a stale target rather than overwriting newer text.

Password fields, recognized payment and one-time-code fields, read-only fields and active IME composition do not accept insertion. Finish composing before reopening the palette. After insertion, the TypeFlow Undo button restores the original only if the editor has not changed.

Free limits

Version 1.0.0 includes up to 30 saved templates, three basic forms with text fields, and unlimited uses of those templates. Plain text templates do not use a form slot. Settings lets you select the three active basic forms after an import. Imported data is preserved even if it exceeds these limits; additional creation or running advanced forms can be restricted, but reading and exporting remain available. There is no checkout in this release.

Back up your library

In Settings choose Export backup. Keep the JSON file somewhere private. Import supports TypeFlow JSON backups up to 5 MiB and 1,000 templates. Merge keeps existing records; conflicting IDs or shortcuts stop the entire import. To restore on another profile, choose the explicit replacement option. Replacement removes the current library and restores the backup, while saving a recovery copy first. TypeFlow keeps a recovery export of the library from before the most recent successful import.

There is no cloud sync. Export before uninstalling, changing profiles or resetting Chrome. Backup files are readable text, so do not share private content accidentally.
